Seattle Townhouse

This young family was quickly outgrowing their 1,100 square foot townhouse, but they weren’t ready to move to the suburbs. I made strategic changes to their space to make it look and feel larger and more inviting, including opening up the kitchen, refinishing the dated fireplace, and adding fresh paint and flooring throughout. I also helped them choose furniture and decor that could stand up to their two young boys.

The original kitchen featured a peninsula, which made the already-small space feel even tighter. We removed it and added a full-height pantry cabinet to give them additional storage. This also created space for a small dining table. We also replaced the cabinet hardware, added a mosaic tile backsplash and new quartz countertops.

The dated fireplace was blocked off by furniture and everything was pushed up against the walls. The goal was a grown-up space that could double as a playroom. I added a shelving unit for toy storage, mounted the TV to the wall for safety and to save space. I also refinished the tile fireplace with a modern pattern, added a box beam mantel, and mounted the TV above it to maximize space and create a new focal point for the room.

This miniscule powder room is the only bathroom for the lower and main floors of the home. I replaced the pedestal sink with a new vanity with storage, updated the mirror and fixtures, and added decorative floating shelves above the toilet.
