The Best Entryway Rugs for 2024!
The best modern entryway rugs & accent rugs on a budget in every color in 2’x3′ & 3’x5, plus how to choose the right one.
How to Choose An Entryway Rug
Finding that just-right entryway rug is no easy task… so I’m here to answer your questions and help you find one that’s both functional and pretty. And did I mention inexpensive?
Yep that’s right. Because I don’t want to drop a bundle on a rug that I know will get dingy over time, no matter how clean I try to keep it. And I’m guessing you don’t either?
I’ll refer to them as “entryway rugs” in this article, but the same criteria apply to rugs for mudrooms, back doors, and any other high-traffic areas where people enter the house from outside.
Entryway Rug Sizes
Here’s my standard rug size guide to help you choose the right size and shaped rug for any space in your home. The most common entryway rug sizes are 2’x3′ and 3’x5′ rectangles, and those are the sizes I’ll focus on in this article. But most of these rugs are available in multiple sizes and shapes.
I think it goes without saying that a small entry way gets a small rug, while a grand foyer will require one or more larger rugs.
Pile Height
Pile height refers to the thickness of the rug, which is generally determined by the length of the strands of yarn or fibers.
Any time a rug is going to go in an important walkway through the home, it needs to have a low pile so it won’t be a tripping hazard.
This is especially important in an entry way, since people will often enter the house carrying large things. The rug’s pile will also need to be low enough that it doesn’t interfere with the front door opening and closing.
Trust me, having a door mat that rumples up every time someone opens the door is a serious pain! So save your cute flokati and shag rugs for the bathroom or bedroom where they aren’t as likely to become a problem.
How to Keep An Entryway Rug in Place
A friend recently introduced me to these inexpensive non-slip rug grippers. They stick to the corners of the rug and the floor, but they’re still repositionable and won’t leave behind any sticky residue.
I was a little skeptical at first because my roommates and I had a rug tape disaster back in college that almost resulted in us not getting our deposit back! It took hours and hours to clean that stuff off the floor.
But now that I’ve tested them myself I’m a believer. They even passed the Fozzy test, without slipping around or bunching up!
What About Non-Slip Rug Pads?
I like to use rug pads under larger area rugs (think living rooms & bedrooms), because they will generally have large pieces of furniture holding them in place. But most rug pads don’t work well under smaller accent rugs and runners.
Even though they claim to be “non-slip,” rug pads tend to scoot around on the floor, and it’s really difficult to keep them in place. A rug pad will also raise the rug and contribute to the problems we discussed above.
Inexpensive Entryway Rugs In Every Color
Now for the rugs themselves. I’ve scoured the web for good deals on stylish accent rugs in both 2’x3′ and 3’x5′ sizes, and organized them by color for your convenience. I’ve included every major color group except white/cream. Do yourself a favor and don’t get put a white rug in your entryway
Most of these rugs will come in other shapes and sizes as well, and sometimes they’re available in different colors. Happy Shopping!
