Tools & Materials

A. 1 1/2 cups soy wax flakes (this is my favorite brand from Amazon and it comes with the wicks and wick-centering devices)

B. wick-centering devices (you’ll need one for each candle)

C. pre-waxed cotton wicks (3 per candle)

D. candle jars (I’m using one of these 6 oz ramekins from amazon)

E. .5 oz. (1 Tbsp.) candle fragrance oil (I’m using Toasted Marshmallow & Pumpkin Brulee, from Makesy)

F. wax dye (orange & brown)- optional (this is my favorite wax dye kit from Amazon)

  1. large glass measuring cup (or other microwave-save bowl)
  2. measuring spoons
  3. hot glue gun and glue sticks
  4. digital meat thermometer
  5. fork
  6. scissors

Directions

1. Measure the wax flakes.

I like to use a glass measuring cup, but you can use any microwave-safe container, as long as it has a pour spout.

2. Melt the wax.

Pop the wax into the microwave for one minute, then pull it out and stir it with a fork. Then back in for 30 seconds. Continue, stirring each time, until the wax is completely melted.

3. Add wax dye (optional).

I you want to add color to your candles, heat the wax to between 180-190 degrees. Us the digital thermometer to check.

Add 1-2 pinches of orange and one pinch of brown wax dye chips and stir. You should see the dye immediately melt & spread.

4. Add fragrance oil.

Wait for the wax to cool to between 175-185 degrees and add the fragrance oil. I’m adding 1 Tbsp. for my 6 oz candle. If you’re making a different size, see the conversion chart at the bottom of this post. Stir well.

5. Prepare the wicks.

Attach each of the three wicks to the bottom of the ramekin with hot glue.

Then thread the wicks through two wick-centering devices and balance them on the rim.

6. Pour the candle.

Pour the how wax into the ramekin, filling to just below where you want the top of your finished candle to be. Reserve some wax for the second pour.

7. Let it cool.

Let your candle cool completely. This will likely take a couple of hours.

8. Do a second pour.

Re-heat the leftover wax and pour a thin layer over the top of your candle, just enough to cover the top. Let it cool completely.

9. Trim the wicks.

Trim the wicks with a sharp pair of scissors.

10. Let it cure.

Cover your candle with plastic wrap and let it cure in the cool dry place for at least two weeks before burning. Enjoy!
